Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed her role. Fearing stress, her parents did not want to see her pursue acting before she reached the age of 18. Perry was shy during high school and was not a performer. Her first acting experience was at Northwestern University to gain friends as she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry managed to get small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. The feeling of homelessness, however, caused her to move to California again where she began to work on stage. She performed on Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on The Family, an ABC drama The Family, in 2016. In 2017 she had a recurring role on The ABC Political thriller Scandal with her father. In the same year, her character was cast the younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger model of the mother's. The character was assigned an audition to the actress, despite the fact that she has a family tie to the character.
